Grade 11 German Listening and Speaking Notes
This focused study page introduces Listening and Speaking and provides a revision activity. Use it alongside your classroom notes and the current curriculum design.
Key ideas
Listening for meaning involves identifying the speaker’s purpose, key information and attitude. Listen once for the overall message, then again for details. In speaking, organise ideas clearly, use suitable register and check that pronunciation and stress support meaning. A conversation also involves turn-taking and responding to what another person actually said.
Practice activity
Listen to a short dialogue in the target language. Record the participants, setting, purpose and three details. Recreate the conversation with a partner, changing one detail.
Check your response
Check that your reply answers the question, uses an appropriate greeting and is clear enough for the listener to follow.
Revision questions
- Explain the key terms in this topic using your own words and a relevant example.
- Apply the ideas to the practice activity above. Show the evidence or steps supporting your answer.
- Identify one possible mistake or limitation in your response and explain how you would correct it.
