1. Map distance

Question: On a map, 1 cm represents 2 km. Two places are 3 cm apart in a straight line. Find the ground distance.

Show answer and explanation

3 × 2 = 6 km. State that this is the straight-line distance. A road that bends between the places may be longer than the measured straight line.

2. Weather and climate

Question: Distinguish a day’s weather report from a description of climate.

Show answer and explanation

Weather describes conditions at a particular time, such as today’s rainfall. Climate describes patterns over a long period. One unusually wet day does not by itself establish the climate of a place.

3. Respect for culture

Question: A classmate describes a family celebration that is unfamiliar to you. Suggest a respectful response.

Show answer and explanation

Listen and ask a polite question instead of making fun of the celebration. Respectful curiosity allows people to explain their own experiences. Avoid assuming that every family follows the same practice.

4. Conservation

Question: Suggest an action that reduces soil being washed from a bare slope.

Show answer and explanation

Appropriate vegetation cover can help protect soil from the impact of rain and slow runoff. The best action depends on the site and should follow adult guidance. Explain how the proposed action helps retain soil.

5. Shared responsibility

Question: Why should a community agree on rules for using a shared water point?

Show answer and explanation

Agreed rules can support fair access, cleanliness and orderly use. Explain a specific benefit rather than saying only that rules are good. Rules should also be communicated clearly so that users understand them.

How to review your Social Studies answers

  1. Read the instruction. Identify whether you need to name, explain, compare, calculate or give an example. Answer the task that was actually set.
  2. Make your reasoning visible. Show working for a calculation or give the detail that supports a written answer. A correct result without understanding is difficult to apply to a new question.
  3. Correct one difficulty. Record the error and explain the change needed. Try a similar example later without copying the worked answer.

Teachers and parents can use a short set to start a discussion, identify a misunderstanding and select a follow-up task. These activities provide focused practice; they do not certify coverage of every curriculum outcome or replace classroom teaching.
