Attempt each question before expanding its answer. These examples were written for this page; they are not extracts from a downloadable booklet or an official assessment paper.

1. Conjunctions

Question: Join these ideas with because: “The match stopped. It was raining heavily.”

Show answer and explanation

The match stopped because it was raining heavily. The conjunction introduces the reason. Keep the cause and result clear rather than joining words in an order that changes the meaning.

2. Pronouns

Question: Replace the repeated name: “Amina packed Amina’s bag before Amina left.”

Show answer and explanation

Amina packed her bag before she left. The pronouns her and she refer to Amina. A pronoun should have a clear reference, especially in a passage with several people.

3. Punctuation

Question: Add correct capital letters and punctuation: “where is the library asked ali”

Show answer and explanation

“Where is the library?” asked Ali. Use a capital letter at the start of the spoken question and for the name Ali. The question mark belongs with the question.

4. Describing words

Question: Identify the adjective in “The narrow path led to the river” and explain its work.

Show answer and explanation

Narrow is the adjective. It describes the path by telling us about its width. Led is the verb; it expresses what the path did in the sentence rather than describing its width.

5. Inference

Question: “Njeri checked the clock twice and hurried to the gate.” What may this suggest?

Show answer and explanation

She may be concerned about time or being late. Checking the clock and hurrying support that inference. The text does not state the exact appointment, so avoid inventing one as a certain fact.

How to review your English answers

  1. Read the instruction. Identify whether you need to name, explain, compare, calculate or give an example. Answer the task that was actually set.
  2. Make your reasoning visible. Show working for a calculation or give the detail that supports a written answer. A correct result without understanding is difficult to apply to a new question.
  3. Correct one difficulty. Record the error and explain the change needed. Try a similar example later without copying the worked answer.

Teachers and parents can use a short set to start a discussion, identify a misunderstanding and select a follow-up task. These activities provide focused practice; they do not certify coverage of every curriculum outcome or replace classroom teaching.
