Attempt each question before expanding its answer. These examples were written for this page; they are not extracts from a downloadable booklet or an official assessment paper.

1. Plural nouns

Question: Write the plural of child and use it in a sentence.

Show answer and explanation

The plural is children. Example: The children are reading quietly. Check that the verb agrees with the plural subject; “children is” would not agree.

2. Past tense

Question: Rewrite: “Musa walks to the shop” to show that it happened yesterday.

Show answer and explanation

Musa walked to the shop yesterday. The verb changes from walks to walked. The time word helps identify the past, but the verb must also show the correct tense.

3. Reading for a reason

Question: “Rain began to fall, so Wanjiku opened her umbrella.” Why did she open it?

Show answer and explanation

She opened the umbrella to protect herself from the rain. The sentence gives the reason directly. An answer about shade from the sun would not match the information provided.

How to review your English answers

  1. Read the instruction. Identify whether you need to name, explain, compare, calculate or give an example. Answer the task that was actually set.
  2. Make your reasoning visible. Show working for a calculation or give the detail that supports a written answer. A correct result without understanding is difficult to apply to a new question.
  3. Correct one difficulty. Record the error and explain the change needed. Try a similar example later without copying the worked answer.

Teachers and parents can use a short set to start a discussion, identify a misunderstanding and select a follow-up task. These activities provide focused practice; they do not certify coverage of every curriculum outcome or replace classroom teaching.
