Grade 11 French Reading Notes

This focused study page introduces Reading and provides a revision activity. Use it alongside your classroom notes and the current curriculum design.

Key ideas

Reading involves both understanding what a text states and interpreting what its evidence suggests. Skimming helps identify the main idea; scanning helps locate a specific detail. Infer an unfamiliar word’s meaning from its sentence before checking a dictionary. Support interpretations with words or events from the text.

Practice activity

Choose a short text in the target language. Write its main idea, locate three details and explain the meaning of two unfamiliar words in context.

Check your response

Distinguish an explicit statement from an inference. Check that every inference has support in the passage.

Revision questions

  1. Explain the key terms in this topic using your own words and a relevant example.
  2. Apply the ideas to the practice activity above. Show the evidence or steps supporting your answer.
  3. Identify one possible mistake or limitation in your response and explain how you would correct it.
