Grade 11 Business Studies Financial Records in Business Notes
This focused study page introduces Financial Records in Business and provides a revision activity. Use it alongside your classroom notes and the current curriculum design.
Key ideas
Financial records provide evidence of transactions. A receipt confirms payment; an invoice states amounts owed for goods or services. Record dates, descriptions and amounts consistently. Cash received is not automatically profit: a loan increases cash but also creates a liability. Profit compares relevant revenue and expenses for a period.
Practice activity
Create records for an owner’s capital contribution, a cash sale, stock bought on credit and payment of an electricity bill. Explain which affect cash immediately.
Check your response
Keep source documents, distinguish cash from credit and check that totals agree with supporting records.
Revision questions
- Explain the key terms in this topic using your own words and a relevant example.
- Apply the ideas to the practice activity above. Show the evidence or steps supporting your answer.
- Identify one possible mistake or limitation in your response and explain how you would correct it.
