2027 Grade 7 Integrated Science lesson plans should help you plan, practise or review a clear learning goal. This page combines guidance for using lesson plans, an illustrative subject example, a follow-up task and general KCSERevision resource links. Adapt the activity to the current curriculum and the learning already taught in class.

Grade 7 Integrated Science: further practice
Examine a teacher-selected set of temperature readings. Draw a suitable graph with labelled axes and describe the pattern using values. Identify an unusual reading and discuss whether it should be checked before being discarded. Explain how another measurement could help distinguish an error from a real change in conditions. Keep evidence of the method used. Ask the learner to explain a choice, compare an alternative and identify an improvement.
Planning check — Grade 7 Integrated Science lesson plans: Select a lesson outcome before selecting activities. Check that the listed week range fits the school’s actual teaching sequence; a matching term alone does not establish topic coverage.
Grade 7 Integrated Science: build a lesson around a visible learning goal
A lesson plan should connect a clear goal, a manageable sequence and a way of checking understanding. Select one teaching focus from the example below rather than trying to cover every possible skill in a single session. Allocate time using the school timetable and preserve a short closing check.
- Find the starting point. Ask one diagnostic question or request a small demonstration before teaching. Listen for the method or explanation, not merely the final answer. This helps distinguish a missing idea from a simple slip.
- Model the reasoning. Show a worked response and explain the decisions as you make them. Use a diagram, spoken example or physical representation where it clarifies the subject idea. Invite learners to predict the next step.
- Move from support to independence. Let learners try a related task with guidance, then change one feature for an independent attempt. Provide a prompt that supports the thinking without supplying the whole answer.
- Check and respond. Use a brief exit task that tests the stated goal. Group the responses by the understanding shown, identify a useful follow-up and record an adjustment for the next lesson.
After teaching, record what the class actually managed, the misconception that appeared and the response that helped. A reflection such as “repeat the topic” is less actionable than naming the exact step that learners could not yet explain.
Worked teaching example: variables and evidence
Illustrative activity: A learner wants to test whether exposed surface area affects evaporation using equal volumes of water in a wide container and a narrow container.
Task
Identify the changed variable, a measured outcome and important conditions to keep comparable. Explain why both containers should be observed over the same period.
Worked reasoning or expected evidence
Exposed water surface area is the intended variable. Water loss over a fixed period is an outcome, measured using a suitable method. Initial water quantity, location and environmental conditions should be controlled where possible. Container differences can introduce limitations that must be recorded.
A common difficulty to check
A larger starting quantity does not automatically mean a faster evaporation rate. Compare change over time and report units rather than comparing only the final amounts.
Extend or adapt the task
Sketch a results table before collecting data. Include time, quantity and units, then explain what conclusion the collected evidence would justify.
Grade 7: make reasoning visible and check transfer
Ask the learner to state an assumption, show a method and explain the evidence supporting the conclusion. Use the worked case to clarify the approach, then present a fresh situation with one meaningful difference. Require the learner to decide whether the original approach still fits. Review the reasoning before treating a final answer as evidence of secure understanding. Where the task uses unfamiliar notation or vocabulary, check that it has already been introduced. Use feedback to target the particular decision the learner cannot yet explain independently.
A closing check for this lesson
Hide the model response and give a changed version of the question. Ask for an answer and one supporting reason. Sort the responses into ready to extend, needs another representation and needs a prerequisite check. Plan the next lesson from that evidence.
