2027 Grade 2 HRE Curriculum Designs

2027 Grade 2 HRE curriculum designs should help you plan, practise or review a clear learning goal. This page combines guidance for using curriculum designs, an illustrative subject example, a follow-up task and general KCSERevision resource links. Adapt the activity to the current curriculum and the learning already taught in class.

Grade 2 HRE: further practice

Use a teacher-approved Hindu account to consider patience when a group member needs more help. Explain the account’s central message, compare two possible responses and propose an action that supports the group without embarrassing the learner. Distinguish the interpretation from details explicitly stated in the account. Model one example, allow an independent attempt and use concrete objects or pictures when an explanation is difficult.

Planning check — Grade 2 HRE curriculum designs: Use the official curriculum design as the reference for outcomes. Compare a commercial teaching resource against it; the presence of a grade label is not proof that every outcome is covered.

Grade 2 HRE: turn an outcome into evidence of learning

A curriculum design sets out intended learning. Begin with the current official design used by the school, identify the relevant strand and outcome, and read the associated scope before selecting supplementary materials. An outcome is a destination for learning; the title of a commercial resource is not proof that the destination has been reached.

  1. Locate the outcome. Copy the relevant outcome accurately into the planning record and note its source. Identify the action the learner should demonstrate, such as explain, compare, calculate, create or evaluate.
  2. Decide what evidence would count. Use the example on this page to distinguish doing an activity from demonstrating understanding. A completed page may show participation; a justified response can reveal the intended reasoning.
  3. Match activity and evidence. Choose a task whose demand fits the outcome, available time and learners. Avoid assigning a long task that mainly measures copying when the outcome concerns explanation.
  4. Review the match. After the activity, compare actual responses with the intended evidence. Record a gap that needs teaching and check whether the task itself gave learners a fair opportunity to demonstrate the outcome.

For a coverage check, use columns for outcome, planned activity, evidence collected and next action. Leave an outcome unconfirmed when the evidence is missing. This makes the record useful for planning instead of presenting a ticked list as proof of mastery.

Worked teaching example: considering harm before making a choice

Illustrative activity: A group wants to remove plants from a shared space for a temporary display without asking the people who maintain it.

Task

Identify who and what may be affected. Explain a considerate alternative through a relevant Hindu teaching or value already studied.

Worked reasoning or expected evidence

Seeking permission, considering the plants and maintainers, and using a suitable alternative can reduce avoidable harm. An explanation needs a precise connection with the class reference rather than a claim that one classroom example settles every ethical question.

A common difficulty to check

Good intentions alone do not establish that an action is considerate. Check foreseeable effects and available alternatives.

Extend or adapt the task

Write a recommendation that explains the choice, its benefit and a remaining limitation.

Grade 2: check understanding through a related second example

After modelling, offer a second example that preserves the main idea but changes an object, number or detail. Invite the learner to explain a choice in a short sentence or drawing. Separate the ability to recognise the idea from the ability to complete a longer written task. Use the first attempt to decide whether another demonstration or more independent practice is appropriate. When giving feedback, name a specific step the learner managed and one next step. Keep support visible in the record so later work can show growing independence.

Coverage evidence for this example

Choose a relevant outcome from the current design. Explain which part of the response above would demonstrate it, what evidence would be insufficient, and what another task should check. The activity is an illustration; the official design determines the scope.

Using the resource directory
