Grade 11 Chemistry Organic Chemistry Notes
Revise Organic Chemistry with a focused study outline for Chemistry. Use the explanation, activity and self-check below to organise your revision and identify areas that need further practice.
Topic overview
Organic chemistry studies carbon compounds through their structures and reactions. A functional group helps explain characteristic chemical behaviour. Compounds with similar names can have different structures and therefore different properties.
Try this revision activity
Draw two simple carbon structures and identify the structural feature used to place each in a chemical family.
Begin with a short plan before writing a full response. Identify what the question asks you to explain, calculate, compare or evaluate. Use a diagram, a worked calculation or a specific example where it makes the reasoning clearer.
Check your understanding
Use displayed or structural formulae to justify a classification instead of relying on names alone.
Compare your response with your class notes and the guidance from your teacher. If you find a difference, identify the exact point of disagreement and work through it. Make a short correction note so you can revisit the issue later.
Build your revision record
- Record the important terms and explain each in context.
- Summarise the main relationships using a diagram or a short outline.
- Complete an activity without looking at the explanation.
- Check your reasoning and correct errors clearly.
- Return to the topic after a gap and test what you remember.
